CANCELLED - Botanical Dyeing Workshop

  • IslandWood 4450 Blakely Avenue Northeast Bainbridge Island, WA, 98110 United States (map)

Join me at the By Hand Serial - Makers Retreat to learn the science between different plants ‘tinctoria’ and explore the bounty of botanical palettes. Working with only organic plant matter, that you forage on the campus of Islandwood along with Bloom & Dye’s locally grown dried flowers, you will gain knowledge and insight all while experimenting with the art of natural color. We will be exploring a variety of ways to work with natural dyes; creating botanical bundles, making dye baths and printing with plant pigments to create rich color palettes. Everyone will try their hand at different Japanese shibori traditions as well as surface, pattern, and print design. Each participant will receive a variety of different natural fabrics and fibers to test and dye along with a large silk kerchief to hand dye plus a linen satchel to experiment with printing plant pigment. The custom instructional craftbook will allow everyone to continue their exploration at home.
